THE ELECTRICIAN-THE PARTY –MR. BALTIMORE

....from chapter 17

Biddy and I were lucky enough to find work together, which would allow us to bring in some bucks, and not have our day job interfere with playing in the band. We found some brainless work, helping an electrical contractor. We had to do things i.e. ripping out walls and cleaning up the mess we made, or just general construction “prep” work.

It was cool, because we didn’t really need any training, and all we had to focus on was getting there on time, which really wasn’t a problem for us. I was use to getting up early, something I had learned in the ‘war’. We were never late, and it didn’t take us long to learn how to goof off either. We had worked on this job for a couple of months, and had begun to get use to the routine. We felt comfortable with the boss, and vice-versa. He always managed to pay us on time, and we helped him as much as possible. We knew it was a temporary job, because our minds were more focused on the music, than anything else. He knew we were musicians and he enjoyed the band stories we had for him every Monday morning when we came into work. Now that we were settled on our job, we thought it was time to have a party at the house. We started to plan it right away and the planning helped to make everything easier while thinking of the fun that we were going to have.

We systematically set out to plan every detail, starting with the guest list of course. We knew, putting the list together would be no problem, because we already knew all the finest ladies in town and from providence to Hyannis and the girls we didn’t know would be invited by the real cool dudes that we would invite. When we told our boss about the party, he was excited and asked us he could come with his wife. How could we refuse him, after all, he was our boss, and we didn’t really care if he brought his wife along or not. At that point, he quickly pulled out his wallet to show us a picture of his wife. We weren’t very impressed at what we saw. She looked a little homely to me, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt, because some people just don’t take good pictures. We really weren’t that concerned, because we knew the place would be loaded with some fine honeys, and we wondered why he would want to bring his wife. But we didn’t try to discourage him in any way. He probably wasn’t going to be the only married one there.

It only took us a week to get the word out, and the next Friday came quickly. We didn’t have to play that weekend, so having a party would be a good way to just hang out with our friends. We also had a new singer coming from Baltimore to stay with us, and this would be a good way to welcome him to town. The singer was Lumpy’s friend, his name was Lou and we just knew he would be okay. We worked hard that week and the boss was nice enough to let us go early on Friday, so we could meet the singer and get ready for the party.
